Sergio Ramos in Senegal with UNICEF [Official]

Hi 5 for world champion Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid) on doing this great charity mission for Unicef. Sergio Ramos visited children in Senegal just days after becoming a champion at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He visited a rural community health centre outside Dakar that focuses on improving the nutrition of mothers and their children. He assisted in weighing a baby girl at a health post in the village of Keur Seydou, These routine check-ups are crucial for monitoring the growth of local children to detect signs of malnutrition. In a country where 17 per cent of children under five years of age are chronically undernourished, such inventions are vital. By being a part of the process Mr. Ramos gained an understanding of how UNICEF and its partners reach vulnerable children. SOUNDBITE: "If there is something to be thankful for, it is the many NGO's, but above all, UNICEF, who is doing a wonderful job in every project; not only with soccer, but with child nutrition and with the individual education of each child in Senegal." UNICEF: "Paris Commitments" protect child soldiers

NEW YORK, USA, 30 September 2009 The challenging and critical job of protecting children from recruitment by armed forces or groups took a step forward this week, as a number of United Nations Member States added their names to the Paris Commitments. Adopted in February 2007, the Paris Commitments are an expression of strengthened international resolve to prevent the recruitment of children and highlight the actions governments can take to protect children affected by conflict. A related document, the Paris Principles, sets out operational guidelines for the sustainable reintegration of former child soldiers. A total of 84 states now have endorsed the commitments. The latest signatories are Albania, the Central African Republic, Eritrea, Guinea, Jamaica, Liechtenstein, Panama and Senegal. To read more, visit www.unicef.org [ voir sur Youtube.com ]

Senegal Parrot and Budgie Parakeet Sliding Down A Slide Trick

Kili my Senegal Parrot and Duke the Budgerigar take turns coming down the wood slide that I built specially for them. The birds go up the ladder and then slide down the slide. It is not that difficult of a trick to teach your bird. Half the job is finding a slide to buy or building your own. Senegal Parrots come from Africa and are in the Poicephalus Genus. These parrots feature a dark head and green body. Eyes become bright yellow upon reaching maturity. Budgerigars are ground feeding parakeets that come from Australia. They are the only member of the genus Melopsittacus. People mistakenly call them parakeets and while they are one type of parakeet, there are hundreds of other types as well. Budgies have become very popular pets but are grossly under rated and under appreciated. They are very capable learners and can easily be taught cool tricks. This video shows you all of the tricks we taught the budgie for under 2 months we've had him: www.youtube.com [ voir sur Youtube.com ]

Habitat for Humanity Senegal

Poverty is widespread in Senegal and many flock to the cities in search of prosperity. Sadly, a large portion of the population is unemployed or surviving day to day. Some people work in industry, but even those who stay in the same job for several years may not own a home. As a result of these and many other complex issues, housing is a massive problem. Since its inception in 2001, Habitat for Humanity Senegal has partnered with people who cannot afford decent housing in the suburbs of the capital, Dakar. HFHI/ThinFilms [ voir sur Youtube.com ]

Cleaning up Senegal's deadly toxic air - 26 Jun 08

Titi singing Bob Marley cover, problems with fans

The Senegalese singer Titi usually sings mbalax, but this time she does a Bob Marley cover. These images are taken from the "Oscar des Vacances" program (2STV) from saturday 23 August 2008 (one day later on TV). You can see fans going wild, there are even fans entering the 'stage' (actually a basketball field) and clinging on to their idol. For the security people it's a hard job getting rid of those fans. Even Aziz Samb, the host of the talent show, is helping them, looking for fans going wild, while Titi continues singing. [ voir sur Youtube.com ]
