Kili Senegal Parrot - Ascents and Descents Flight Training Parrot On Staircase

This one is more intended as a step by step tutorial for owners teaching flight to their parrot. For step by step written instructions about flight training and in particular vertical flight training, check out the article I wrote about it on the parrot forum: www.theparrotforum.com This is video footage from day 2 of training Kili to fly up and down my stairway. The good thing is that it's a completely closed stairway with doors at both top and bottom so she has no choice but to fly to me. I set up her training perch at the top or bottom of the stairs and recall fly her either upstairs or downstairs. I progressively increase the distance. Kili Senegal Parrot - Flight Training Recall Second Day
This is the second day of flight training Kili my Senegal Parrot. I started today's training at where yesterday's left off. I started her off doing perch to perch flights of 18 inches and worked our way up to a 60 inch long flight. I also did some longer recall flights ending on a recall flight of approximately 20 inches which is phenomenal considering I could not get this bird to jump 5 inches to come to me two days ago. We caught some of these flights in a special slow motion mode on my camera so you can really see the way she flies these flights. You can also notice some feathers still missing from her wings because her molt has not yet finished. Kili Senegal Parrot - Petting and Purring Parrot
Here's a video where Senegal Parrot personality really shows. I walked in and Kili got really excited to see me so I grabbed the camera to share this. Her eyes started pinning and she was clicking her beak (and vocalizing a little too). If you listen really closely (and I put up notes when it happens to warn you), you can hear her purr. It's very quiet and hard to hear so you may have to turn up your speakers. It's the cutest thing though. Cape Parrot Update: Vet visit Friday, getting shipped to me Tuesday next week. Kili Senegal Parrot - Hide and Seek, Around the Corner Recalls
My Senegal Parrot likes to play hide and seek. I put her on a perch in the hallway and hide somewhere in the room where she can't immediately see me. Then I call her name and she flies out and looks for me. I give her a treat when she lands on me and then send her back to the perch to try again. I try to mix it up. Sometimes I recall her around the corner and sometimes I do a flight recall straight out. I mix it up so that she doesn't get into a strict habit of flying to one place. Kili Senegal Parrot - Fetch Ball Trick
Kili my Senegal Parrot fetches a ball and then brings it back to me. She doesn't get rewarded until the ball is placed into my hand. If it falls out, she has to go back and put it in right. Kili Senegal Parrot - Play Dead Trick
Kili my Senegal Parrot plays dead when I point my hand (like a gun) at her and say "bang!" She rolls over on her back and then drops her head back to look like she died.
